Retro Makeover

The addition and renovations to this 1975 bungalow were undertaken in two stages to minimize the amount of time the house would be ‘off limits’ to the owners.

The first stage involved the complete refurbishment of the interiors including the reorganization of the original floor plan to achieve an open plan living, kitchen and dining area to make the most of the expansive views north to the Blackwood River estuary and the town of Augusta.

Floor finishes and new cabinetwork were selected with an eye to the 1970’s retro style envisioned by the architect owner, along with durability and budget considerations given the house’s intended use as a holiday home.

The second stage, involved the addition of a master bedroom and ensuite zone, accessed via a Sunroom which also provides direct access to the new external hard and soft landscaped areas to the rear.

The old clay tile roof was replaced with Colorbond Custom Orb profile roof sheeting and the new timber-framed external walls were clad in a paint finish, vertical CFC linear boarding.

The result is a contemporary home that pays homage to its 1970’s origins.
